Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology has a great pleasure to invite students, lecturers and workers of Poznan University of Life Sciences to a lecture given by Professor Jerrold E. Winandy from University of Minnesota St.Paul, MN USA, Dept. of Bioproducts & Biosystems Engineering.
Topic of the lecture: „Relating Changes in Wood Chemistry to Strength”.
This lecture reviews basic wood composition and structure. It presents the results of a coordinated series of studies by scientists at USDA Forest Products Laboratory in USA. Each study is reviewed and discussed to show how their observations and evaluations mutually support a “fundamental relationship between sequential changes in wood chemistry systematically cause strength loss.” Each study individually found that as wood properties were affected by chemical or thermal agents or by biological deterioration, the magnitude of the strength loss was directly related to both the sequence of individual chemical changes and the magnitude of those losses in individual carbohydrates.
keywords: wood chemistry, strength properties, molecular structure, hydrolytic deterioration, biological decay
Professor Jerrold E. Winandy will present the lecture on ZOOM Platform on Wednesday 03.03.2021 at 14:00.
